I recently attended the Creation Ministries International (CMI) five-day Creation 2022 Superconference at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. TASC board members Drs. Jeff Gift and David Greear were also in attendance. The conference was held from May 30 to June 3 at the beautiful Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort, located right on the ocean. There were 597 in attendance from all over the country, 22 lectures, 10 CMI presenters, a massive bookstore, a children’s program, optional opportunities to attend a guided tour through a nearby aquarium with marine biologist Dr. Robert Carter or to match wits with chess master Dr. Jonathan Sarfati, and free time to enjoy the beach.
We live in deceptive times. The air of deception permeates society like no other time of history. Censorship, oppression, and the abolishment of freedom to think for yourself is lurking just ahead. As followers of Christ, we need to be aware, first off, not of what is going on around us, but of what kind of relationship we have with our Creator, Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and coming King!
First, we must realize what we are. In Jeremiah, the Lord tells us:
The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it?
I, the LORD, search the heart,
I test the mind,
Even to give every man according to his ways,
According to the fruit of his doings.
Infectious diseases that affect our world are frequent topics of both discussion and study, especially in view of our current COVID-19 crisis and its associated mortality. In spite of modern medicine and antibiotic breakthroughs, many illnesses and fatalities are unfortunately caused by commonplace infections such as pneumonia, influenza, hepatitis, dysentery, and osteomyelitis to name a few. Infections have been part of our human struggle from age to age. It is interesting that very few specific types of infections are mentioned in the Bible.
I have training in plant pathology; and during my thirty-eight years of service at North Carolina State University (NCSU), I taught courses and conducted research relative to plants and their disease organisms, mostly fungi.
"Deep time” is the underlying assumption behind the modern cosmological “Big-Bang Theory” and everything that flows from it in the modern scientific establishment, including geology with its millions of years of earth-history, and the modern biological theory of evolution that requires, we are told, millions of years to form life as we know it. Dr. Don DeYoung in his book Thousands not Billions defines “deep time” thus:
"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the the Son, but the Father alone.
Our God is infinite in love (1 Jn 4:8), knowledge (Heb 4:13), wisdom, and power (Heb 1:3). He is eternal (Ps 106:48) and not bound by time. He is personal and exists as a Trinity of three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As a person, God has a mind, emotions, and a will. Human beings also have attributes of mind, emotion, and will because we were created by Him in His image (Gen 1:26). We know God became a man who came into the world to rescue sinners who would believe on Him for eternal life. The fingerprints of the God of the Bible are everywhere in His creation. He has left clues of his power and wisdom everywhere. The universe and all that is within it were created by Him and for Him (Col 1:16).
When a person thinks about Babel, they almost always think about language.
Perhaps the most frequent argument used by skeptics against the Christian faith is that a good, loving, and all-powerful God wouldn't possibly allow evil (along with sorrow, pain, bloodshed, etc.) into his world. Evil obviously exists in our world. It is all around us. Thus, the biblical God can’t possibly exist. If he did, and he was indeed omnipotent, he would obviously do something about it! It is not only skeptics, however, who struggle with this “problem of evil.” The Christian who shares his faith will find that this question probably causes more people to doubt the validity of the Bible and the Christian faith than any other.
